Executive Director Of Kuaʻāina Ulu ʻauamo (Kua), Kevin Chang, To Speak At 12th World Wilderness Congress In August
The organizers and hosts of the 12th World Wilderness Congress are excited to announce that Kevin Chang will speak at the Congress on Tuesday August 27th!

“What I hope for this gathering is we can connect to support Indigenous People and Local Community place-based efforts to mālama (care for) their places.”
Kevin Chang is the Executive Director of Kuaʻāina Ulu ʻAuamo which means “grassroots growing through shared kuleana (responsibility)” the acronym KUA means back. Like a backbone KUA is a convening and advocacy organization for movement networks for rural and Native Hawaiian community driven biocultural resource management initiatives. Kevin and the KUA team are building a “backbone organization” that supports community-based solutions to problems stemming from environmental degradation in Hawai’i.
KUA works with its network and community members, government agencies and civil society towards restoring the traditional role of Hawai’i communities as caretakers of their lands and waters.
The 12th World Wilderness Congress (WILD12) is a global forum to coordinate and mobilize the protection of Earth’s remaining wilderness and wild places. It convenes thousands of delegates from around the world approximately every 4 years to seek and agree upon new actions and principles in the stewardship of Earth. WILD12 is hosted by the Oceti Sakowin on behalf of the Sicangu Lakota Treaty Council, and will place a special emphasis on reinterpreting wilderness through Indigenous perspectives.
