NatGeo Explorer, Cristina Mittermeier, to Speak at 12th World Wilderness Congress in August
The organizers and hosts of the 12th World Wilderness Congress are excited to announce that Cristina Mittermeier, the legendary marine biologist and photographer, will speak on ocean wilderness at WILD12 on Tuesday, August 27.
Cristina Mittermeier is a pioneer of conservation photography, spending much of her career successfully demonstrating the relationship between human culture and the biodiversity-ocean-climate system. As the founder of the International League of Conservation Photographers, an organization that was born at WILD 8, Cristina has also empowered new generations of visual storytellers to expose the truth of our interdependence with the natural world. Today she leads SeaLegacy, an org that uses storytelling to tackle ocean issues. Few people have done more to expose the vast beauty and raw threats that confront ocean and marine life. She will share these stories and her bold proposals for what can be done to save marine life with WILD12 delegates this August in Rapid City.
The 12th World Wilderness Congress (WILD12) is a global forum to coordinate and mobilize the protection of Earth’s remaining wilderness and wild places. It convenes thousands of delegates from around the world approximately every 4 years to seek and agree upon new actions and principles in the stewardship of Earth. WILD12 is hosted by the Oceti Sakowin on behalf of the Sicangu Lakota Treaty Council, and will place a special emphasis on reinterpreting wilderness through Indigenous perspectives.
