Tourism Operator & Photojournalist, Ian Michler, To Speak At 12th World Wilderness Congress In August

The organizers and hosts of the 12th World Wilderness Congress are excited to announce that Ian Michler will speak at the Congress!

Ian Michler, a graduate of the Sustainability Institute, Stellenbosch University, has spent over 33 years working across Africa as a tourism operator, environmental photojournalist, wilderness guide and ecotourism consultant. He has published several natural history and travel books on Africa, and his investigative and environmental writing has appeared in publications around the world. His most recent book, Living in Two Worlds – Addressing Humanity’s Greatest Challenge was released in 2022.

He is actively involved in the global campaign of the award-winning feature documentary Blood Lions, and is a Director of Eden to Addo. Ian currently lives in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa where he is a managing partner and Director of Invent Africa, a safari company that runs specialist trips to 16 countries across Africa.

The 12th World Wilderness Congress (WILD12) is a global forum to coordinate and mobilize the protection of Earth’s remaining wilderness and wild places. It convenes thousands of delegates from around the world approximately every 4 years to seek and agree upon new actions and principles in the stewardship of Earth. WILD12 is hosted by the Oceti Sakowin on behalf of the Sicangu Lakota Treaty Council, and will place a special emphasis on reinterpreting wilderness through Indigenous perspectives.
