Saving Earth’s wilderness has the power to halt climate change, end mass extinction, and decrease the frequency of pandemics. The science is clear. To stop and reverse climate change, we must protect and restore wilderness. To save Earth’s biodiversity, comprising millions of life forms, from mass extinction, we must protect and restore wilderness. To decrease the frequency of novel viruses, we must protect and restore wilderness.

Every single one of us depends on wilderness. This is why the WILD Foundation is building a global movement to protect wilderness. When we do, we defend life and build a wild and healthy future for humanity.

What could be possible for our biosphere if we used the necessity of protecting and conserving Half of Earth’s lands and seas as an opportunity to expand Indigenous land tenure and restore land to Indigenous Peoples and local communities? As the world meets once more for the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) to seemingly decide again on what was already agreed upong over a year ago, WILD continues to advocate for the Nature Needs Half target with an emphasis on the restoration and expansion of Indigenous land tenure but, we cannot do this alone!

Survival Revolution

WILD is mobilizing one hundred million voices around the world in defense of nature, so that global leaders are empowered to take the next step to ensure our survival: protecting Half of Earth’s land and seas. We need your help to ensure that the recommendation of both Traditional Leaders and contemporary scientists – 50% of Earth – is adopted on the global scale.

Africa Protected Areas Congress

Protecting nature on a large scale is as necessary for local communities as it is for the planet. On July 18-23, 2022, the inaugural IUCN African Protected Areas Congress (APAC) will occur in Kigali, Rwanda. This is a landmark event for nature conservation and sustainable development in Africa. Achieving Half is possible, especially in Africa where communities are mobilizing to defend the biodiversity upon which they depend.
