Hidden conservationists
Behind the scenes at WILD with Tori Pfaeffle, Development and Administrative Associate
We are all conservationists when we use our unique skills to help protect the natural world around us.
That’s why we’d like to help you discover the different nature conservation professions that help make the world a better place but aren’t always in the forefront of the environmental world.
Meet Tori Pfaeffle, WILD’s Development and Administrative Associate.
What does your work actually entail?
Essentially, my job is to provide operational support for WILD. This includes carrying out daily administrative tasks, collecting data on the various programs, and creating organizational structure that helps us better track information on the impact and outcomes of our programs.
What do you like about your job?
Hands down, it’s the people I work with. Everyone is so supportive and they all have something brilliant and unique to bring to the table. I feel so grateful to be working alongside people who are so caring and passionate about what they do. Another great thing about my job is how dynamic the work is. There is a nice balance between consistent, daily/weekly tasks and longer term projects where the work ebbs and flows. This set up keeps things exciting while also allowing me to check tasks off the list.
Can you tell us about a moment/story that stood out to you with your work?
I have only been with WILD for about four months but most of these moments come from our weekly team meetings, which again, tells you a lot about the people I work with. My mind goes back to a meeting where we were discussing a very sensitive, difficult topic and everyone on the call showed such humility and vulnerability, making it a very special and inspiring moment to be a part of. Those are the kind of moments that stand out to me and inspire me to be in this field and do the work I am doing.
What advice would you give to others who are searching for a job with purpose?
Be yourself. And stick with it. While searching for a job can be a daunting task, the right organization will choose you because of your passion and authenticity so make sure that’s at the forefront of how you present yourself every time.
