This year the emergencies that challenged us had a single root cause: the assault on natural and cultural diversity. From the wildest corners of our planet to the most civilized, diversity is the underlying condition of ecological and social systems that humankind and nature have in common, and from which they draw their strength. The United Nations concludes that we are currently on a trajectory to lose 1 million species over the next 80 years. That’s 34 species irretrievably lost every day.
When nature’s diversity is assailed by the forces of ignorance, greed, and prejudice, our very survival is compromised.
The WILD Foundation and its many donors have protected diversity, biological and cultural, for 46 years. By forging lasting coalitions across hundreds of communities around the world in dozens of different cultures and countries we protect Earth’s remaining wild places and the diverse communities that depend on them.
