An Update on Tashka Yawanawá
After many months of analyzing and treating a health condition, Tashka Yawanawá is finally back in Rio Branco, Western Acre State. He was treated by an excellent team of doctors inSao Paolo… to them we give our thanks.
In the meantime, through the support of EarthToday, we are beginning in earnest the Territorial Protection program to defend the Yawanawá’s 200,000 hectares of rainforest against illegal logging and mining. The Yawanawá Society, our partner, is in the process of purchasing seven patrol boats and communications equipment. The boats will all be painted with Yawanawá traditional designs to invoke the spirits of the rivers and forests they guard. We can’t wait to show them to you in action! We have much to do in order to protect their rainforests but a very important first step has been achieved thanks to EarthToday. More great things to come!
Below is a recent video of Tashka giving his thanks to all of those who sent him prayers and blessings for a swift recovery.
